Recently, I received a question concerning essential oils and which blends or single oils are helpful for a good night's sleep.
There are several and I'm listing my favorites here:
Lavender: It is very soothing and calming, which is of course always a good thing when one wants to sleep. I like to put a few drops into a small spray bottle with fresh spring water and spray it on my pillow at bedtime. It is also useful to place a few drops on the spine right before bed. The properties of oils are such that they "get under your skin" very quickly and are therefore more effective than a balm, for instance. One can make one's own balm using essential oils, if one prefers, of course. Buy Lavender of Bulgaria Here. Only $9.99.
Chamomile: Incredibly soothing and makes ya downright sleepy! It's a bit on the pricier side, but worth every penny. To use Chamomile Essential Oil to your best and highest good, place a few drops in a diffuser while you sleep. The aromatherapy properties are amazing! Buy German Chamomile Here. Only $66.50. Free Shipping!
Geranium: Not just a pretty flower. But then very few pretty flowers are. In fact, this oil is not produced from the house plant. Just a bit of trivia there. However, Geranium Essential Oil and Lavender dropped into a hot/warm bath before bedtime will ripple away the stress of the day and aid in drifting off to Never Never Land quicker than a bullet train to the second star to the right. Geranium has relaxant, anti-depressant, and sedative qualities that are sure to keep you sleeping straight on 'til morning. Buy Geranium Essential Oil Here. Only $26.30!
So there you have it. The good, better, and best of my favorite single oils for helping sleep and relaxation.
But why re-invent the wheel? Light Scenters offers a great blend of oils, already mixed and researched, that help with sleep patterns and relaxation.
Peace: This blend contains the Chamomile mentioned above, blended with Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Orange, Tangerine, and Blue Tansy Essential Oils. These are a few of the heavy hitters in the sleep and destressing arena. The benefit of using a blend, rather than a single essential oil, is that you get the benefit of some of the more expensive oils, without having to invest in an entire 15 mls (.5 oz) of the oil itself. For instance, you get Chamomile, but you don't spend more than 50 bucks on it. Don't get me wrong - Chamomile is a GREAT oil to have on hand for lots of reasons, but if you're primary objective is sleep... well, you get the picture. Buy Peace Essential Oil Here. Only 28.20!
